  1. Is the floor American Clay? I have used it on walls and simply love it. I now are looking into an Adobe or Clay Casein floor and are curious if I can use American Clay. Any recommendations or pointers?

    1. Earth floors usually have a higher sand content and much more fiber than American clay does, which allows them to be laid thicker (1/2 to 3/4 inch is common). However, you could lay a base coat and skim over it with American Clay before oiling. I’ll likely write a post about earth floors soon which might be helpful to you. This particular floor is about 1 part clay: 4 sand: 1 fine chopped straw

  2. Hi!! I’ve been looking at these earth floors and now this wall and I wanted to understand the thermal properties of them. Can you put radiant heat under an earth floor? And how is an earth wall affected by cold/hot weather? Thank you!!

    1. You can definitely put radiant under earth floors, its somewhere between concrete and wood for thermal conductivity
